"Action: Sauver le plongeon imbrin". Terre Sauvage magazine - France / October 2011
In Quebec, since 1987, the biologist Denis Masse and his team from the Resources Conservation Service of La Mauricie National Park have studied the common loon (Gavia immer). If measures were taken to rehabilitate habitat, nesting and promote public awareness, the fact remains that the bird is facing an uncertain future because of the pollution by acid rain and mercury emitted by coal power plants.

"Il faut sauver l'Ours Andin". Terre Sauvage magazine - France / December 2010/January 2011.
In Ecuador, biologists are working for the conservation of the last Andean bears that are classified as a "vulnerable" species on the IUCN Red List. They are threatened by forest fragmentation and poaching. Today we know more about the biology, ecology and environmental needs of Andean bears in Ecuador than ten years ago. All the information collected by biologists will help other researchers to develop better projects throughout the distribution area of this species, from western Venezuela to northern Argentina.

Interactive effects of acidity and mercury on bioaccumulation of mercury in aquatic food chains - Journal of Conservation 2010 - Sepaq - Quebec Parks.
Several recent studies indicate an increase in concentrations of mercury in the environment. Environment Canada is working with several parks in Quebec (La Mauricie national park of Canada, Mont Tremblant national park...) to study populations of common loons (Gavia immer).
This species is known to accumulate high concentrations of mercury, making it a good indicator of the presence of this pollutant in the environment.
